I use damp rid and a fairly simple but effective drying chamber. When do I pll out stems and caps? It seems as though if I just leave them in there they shrink to almost nothing. Can you over dry the babies?

Dry is dry! You can not overdry, b/c once you they are dry there is no more moisure to remove and that is just what you want. *Remember that 90% of the wieght of fresh mushrooms is from the water contained within, so once dry they will be 1/10th the weight and size.

About the 90% water statement [Re: jebus2000]

hey all I was just wondering who here has really tested how much water the shrooms are made of? Is it really 90% water or less. It seems like it cant be exact because you also have the fat asses which seem like they must have more water in them. My friend is currently drying the latest harvest and will test to see how much water is in them but since my friend gave some to his cat while they were in the middle of the drying phase its now going to be tough for him to find out exactly how much water was in them.

How were you gonna find an exact measurement n e ways? They are about 90% water give or take a percent or two. Why are you feeding them to your cat? Waht the hell's wrong with you?

I got it. Sorry for the confusion. Yeah my cat ate an eight (yeah a whole eighth) of weed one time (bag and all). yeah she's pretty fat, like 16 lb's. ne ways she puked it up then kept puking and shit. Shit hit the fan when my mom sent the "strange seeds" to the lab to find out what it was that was making her sick. Got busted but shit happens.

It's easy to find out the what it will weigh if they are 90% water. Just take your original weight and multiply by .1 thats what your fungus should weigh when they are totally dried out (If they are in fact 90% water). But now that my cat ate some while they were in the process of drying so its gonna be a lot harder to do the math. And I wasnt gonna give em to my cat, but it was purring and being real nice and just wouldnt stop bothering me, so I had to.
