If you have to, something very very light. Most people don't know you shouldn't put labels or such on Cd's. Reason being it makes the disc unbalanced putting unneeded stress on the CD player. But if you don't care about your CD player give it a go.

It probably isn't THAT bad for the CD player but it's not something you want to do every day.

I use colored Sharpies whenever I do it.
