So, I am trying to read a book every now and then and I'm trying to find some good authors. It doesn't matter what type of books they write or anything, I just need some good reading material. I've been getting into...

Henry David Thoreau
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Mark Twain

The top 2 are really cool, and they definitely make you think. Any suggestions?

I always suggest Tom Robbins for anything. My favorite author ever.

Try some George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Robert Heinlen, Arthur C. Clark, or if your looking for a newer book try Malcolm Gladwell.

i am a huge fan of robbins as well(start with still life with woodpecker). give yann martel a go- 'life of pi' is very good. another good author is jane austen if you have the patience, and i really enjoyed pearl buck's the good earth

Yeah I'll be the third person in this thread to highly recommend Tom Robbins if you like extremely good fiction. If you want to get into mayan cosmology check out John Major Jenkins. For the best information on the history of deceit, corruption, and debauchery of the christian church I highly recommend Tony Bushby. I also highly recommend the books of Joseph Campbell if you want to begin a fascinating journey into ancient mythology.
