Tom Robbins, author of Even Cowgirls Get The Blues
    #2849982 - 07/02/04 03:33 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Whats up guys...anyone out there like reading Tom Robbins?

The first book I read by him was "Another Roadside Attraction", which I found in my dad's study, I must have been 16-17, and the book blew my mind. Then I found "Still Life With Woodpecker", and that wasn't as good, but I still enjoyed it immensly. Next I read "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" (stoned for the most part) and...yep, it rocked!

Now, 8 years later, I've read all his books, except the latest, "Villa Incognito", and he's one of my favourite authors.

My dad died before I read Another Roadside attraction, so I never had a chance to talk to him about the books, wish I could have though.

Anyone out there who would like to discuss his books?

Anyway, here's how I rank his novels:

1)Another Roadside Attraction, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, Skinny Legs and All.

2)Still Life With Woodpecker, Jitterbug Perfume.

3) Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates,

4) Half Asleep in Frog Pyjamas.

If you haven't read his novels, and you're into any of the following;

Drugs (especially hallucinogens)
Sex
Philosophy
Humour
History
Politics
Humanist Ideas
Theology
Fucking funny metaphors and similes,

I'm sure you'll enjoy this author

Later!

hmmmm....well, its about this girl, who was born with really big thumbs, so she thinks her life time goal is to hitch hike...she ends up going to a ranch in new mexico (i think), but the ranch is an all-girl ranch, and they want to save some endangered birds...much hilarity ensues.

well, its sounds kinda dumb...just remember that trying to describe one of tom robbins' novels is like trying to describe a trip!

but definitely read it, you won't regret it...

the "Clock People" part will buzz you out

oh yeah, and the movie PALES in comparison to the book, Gus Van Sant makes fuckin great movies, but this wasn't one of 'em.
