Just some of my plants *UPDATED* w/ More pics!
    #3940118 - 03/19/05 03:24 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Sorry for the terrible quality, but I figured I'd show you wonderful people a few of my plants. Enjoy!

Here a few poppies, I should note that these are ornamental poppies grown strictly for color. This is the reason they so close together. The pods only get about the size of a nickel. I do not indulge in the beast after a long hard battle with it.

Here's some gigs which I think got mixed in with the other seeds:

Here's some delightful orange mint that is growing amisdt the poppy(I have rooted cutting of this if anyone is interested):

Here's some lemon balm that I was sure was dead, she came back nicely:

Here we have some wild ginger lilies which are just starting to come back:

This is my new strawberry guava tree! I hope she makes plenty of fruit for me!

Here we have some assorted mint plants, I love collecting different mint varieties:
Dark chocolate mint, this stuff smell just like a york peppermint patty! My fave!

Here we have some apple mine, another one of my faves. They are very hairy and has a wonderful apple scent.

And I'm really not sure what kind of mint this is. I snagged a root ball from a botanical garden but it did not have a sign as to what it was. Pretty sure it's english mint.

*UPDATE*

Here's some more pics!

Here we have some arugula that has gone to flower. I love the way the flowers look and they are very very fragrant.

Here we have my loquat tree and her fruit! I love this tree and the fruit is delicious! The fruit is a yellow orange color when ripe.

Here we have some native wildflowers:

Here is some species of climbing wildflower. Not really sure of species but they often sold as ornamentals:

More to come!

Where I'm from mint grows wild near swamps and lakes. I have considered growing it but I'm not sure. How easy is it to grow? Can you get "seeds"? How long do they grow and can you make cuttings?

That orange mint sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out. Nice garden.

Mint is by far one of the easiest to grow plants in the world. You can either rip up a large amount of roots with some leaves and shoots or you can simply take cutting and root them in water. The roots form in a few days in water and then simply put it in the soil of your choice. You can grow mint from seeds, but I find cuttings a lot easier. If you're not careful, mint can be extremely invasive. It grows VERY quickly and sends runners everywhere. It's very difficult to kill once it's well established. I know some people that part of their lawn is spearmint and they simply mow it when it gets too high. I bet it's quite refreshing

Like I said, if anyone desires a rooted cutting of that orange mint let me know!

Apparently the strawberry guava grows very quickly. It may very produce fruit this spring. That large plant was only 6 dollars. It's already starting to grow on me

awsome! i dont think somthing liek that could be found for less than $20 here (st. guava).

mints are awsome. i have hiked/camped one some rivers here that had patches...damn did that make for a nice accent to teh fish!

we use chocolate mint on our bank to try and get some green (its an open dry HOT part of the yard....not even MG grows there). at my old house we had a lawn like that as well. me and my dad were never up for cutting the lawn so we let the wild plants grow there....flowers, veggies and mint was our lawn. was very pretty. definatly invasive if given teh oppourtunity.

wo its been 24 hours aint it? we get more pics or what?

Hehe, it's been about 6 hours. But I promise more tomorrow! I also plan on taking a stroll to the botanical gardens soon just to show you guys these enormous dagga plants. They get to be about 12 - 15 feet high and extraordinarily beautiful!

Kinda stinks because I'll be moving soon and will not get to see my poppies bloom this year :frown:. Also I lost alot of my ethnos due to someone forgetting to take care of them in my absence  :mad2:

I'm a fan of mint. Catnip is in the mint family and as such is easy to grow. It makes an aromatic tea and can be used to befriend the neighborhood cats.

"Also I lost alot of my ethnos due to someone forgetting to take care of them in my absence"

I hear you on that one. My salvia, calea and khat are all half dead (more like 80% dead) because I wasn't able to look after them myself. However, my D. bosseranum seedlings really took off! It seems they thrive on neglect, I'll get some photos for ya'll soon...

Excellent! Thanks for the pics. I love mint, especially chocolate mint. I got a cutting from a neighborhood garden last year, and it smell so good. I also have some variagated "pineapple" mint, though I am not sure about the pineapple part. And I love the idea of a mint lawn!
Of course, lemon balm is another great smelling herb. Also great in tea!
Keep up the green work.
