I don't see whats wrong with categorizing people, it makes it easier to know a person's background, or interests.

The only thing wrong with it is that categorizing people can lead to discrimination.

There's a difference between discrimination and stereotyping.

discrimination from what I've seen is just false superiority over a group or race.

stereotypes are just certain traits which are often put hand in hand with groups.

But there is a strong relation between discriminationand stereotyping.

Yeah I totally agree, its a little more complex, but I agree for the most part.

As far as hippies go, I think of a very specific time, which is gone now and so too ARE most of those who are the definition of hippies.

I think in a lot of cases, unfortunately, people are just infatuated with the idea of being a hippie. They think of the counterculture, the war protests, and of course the rampant sex :thumbup: but today many people ignore the politics behind the movements and end up quoting people like Michal Moore in political debates. Meh! im drunk...

i think the anti culture of hippes has become the current culture of kids that dont fit in and find their niche in the 60's movements... its not longer an anti culture...
