Cobwebs

I'm using the humidifier tech. In the bowl containing substrate that I placed in the aquarium there is a tiny mass of cobweb-like, hairy white strands.. looks like peach fuzz. Also, it appeared overnight. This is my first time cultivating mushrooms, but the jar didn't seem to be contaminated before I birthed it, and crushed it up into a bowl. Is this bowl contaminated?
Thanks in advance.

But there are little black things on the end of all of them... one of the jars I had became contaminated and little flies started colonizing inside it of it... ARE YOU SURE? If no replies assuring me this is OK when I get up, I'm getting rid of the bowl.
Thanks for the help!

Oh, and I should also add that the rest of the bowl looks rather normal... it's just on one side of the bowl... it's almost the same white fuzz, but it's like an inch high and looks almost exactly like pussywillow.

i am not familiar with your tek persay, but i assume that its one (open) bowl of colonized substrate in an aquarium with a humidifier on it. i would keep it growing, at least for another day or so. then again i have 2 jars fighting contams for over a week now and still progressng. if its an open container with other open containers around it, id get it out of there for fear of it getting to the others. if its just the one, id keep going. if its right on or near the top and it doesnt look good (darker grey/black or worse... green) then heat up a kitchen knife red hot and try to cut away the section and wipe the container around it w/ hydrogen peroxide with a decent (not flowing!) amount. but it seems like its a good chance that its mycellum too. once the substrate is colonized and/or cased then youre pretty much set as far as contamination goes. id say for now just mist it with 50/50 water/peroxide and see if the growth continues, stopsm or dies. if it dies it was prolly contam. if it grows or stays put its probably myc. keep us posted but i wouldnt trash it yet.
-------------------- Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go?
maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it!

yea, its def. cobweb mold if you can see little black dots at the origins of the matrix. i dont know exactly what these dots are, but i always get the same thing with cobweb. i would try spraying it with 3% hydrogen peroxide directly before you trash it. the yellow spots are probably real bad, i could never recover casings that became contaminated with green or yellow molds. but try the h2o2, it couldnt hurt. i know most people say to spray lightly with a really diluted solution, but i think undiluted 3% solutiong sprayed on generously works the best. it will kill the mycelium in the immediate area, but within a few days it will all grow back. mine always re-colonized much more strongly than what it was before the spraying. hope that helps
