Most of them never make money later. If the professional leagues and the colleges are going to collude to provide a free training ground then the poor fuckers should be paid something.
Black/white eh, talent isn't exactly labor and there is no reason to believe that successful black businessmen are interested in any color other than green, just like their paler brethren.

Geez man, if someone trains on the high school track, they shouldn't be given a fucking degree for it. My entire point is that their is a reason for college, and that it's academic. If having athletics allows the school to make money to further it's main goal of academic education, thats fine. This cannot be allowed to compromise the integrity of the degrees offered by the school. Pushingpeople through who do not merit the grades they are getting is one of the reasons that college degrees are so devalued.

Now, my thoughts about a college degree. I think that so many people now are getting degrees and jobs are requiring them for positions that don't really need one. Having at least a college degree is pretty much mandatory in todays job market. Too many college kids are just doing what they believe they have to to get a job. Drunken parties, promiscuity, barely passing classes, I think that that sums up the average college experience now. They barely graduate and end up with some useless degree. They should privatize schools so that people with a high school degree have been exposed to the things that a person with two years of current college education should have. Ideally people will be smarter.

Yeah, so lets have a bunch of athletes WITHOUT degrees....HUH?

You are failing to realize that 99.9% of college athletes do not go on to make the big bucks in the major leagues. The college athletic system is a total sham if you ask me. The people are going to feel used and empty after they graduate and have no where to go, and little knowledge to take them any place because they spent 7 hours a day playing a sport.

It might be good exercise, it might develop team skills, but it also defeats the fucking point of going to college.

I see more athletes depressed and on all kinds of drugs, steroids, just going in the absolute worst direction. It makes people too competitve, too strung-out, and not care about things that might matter a bit more.

I'm not saying this is true for everyone. I'm not saying sports are bad. I just think the collegiate sports system is severely out of wack and destroying lives.

People involved in non revenue sports generally tend to do better than the rest of the student population. Sportsmanship, work ethic and team work are developed and those things tend to be quite usefull in a competative society.

The problem is with the corruption, but we have those problems everywhere so it doesn't surprise me. If high school championships had million dollar bowl games they would have corruption there as well.

And not every school cheats either. We mainly hear about the bad apples. I am a huge fan of college sports, and my alma does a great job of graduating kids, making money, and giving the school a sense for pride and community.
