Big Laughing Gyms (pics)

These were found last fall growing from a tree stump in the puget sound area. Gymnopilus spectabilis I do believe, or G. ventricosus, described by Stamets as "nearly identical but inactive". There was no detectable bluing. These pictures have not been posted before.









And the spore print:


Unfortunately no one had the nerve to bioassay them. In this forum, MJ said they were typically very bitter, so bitter it was not even worth it. So it was hard to really worry about trying them. Oh, well, they are cool lookin big orange honkers by cracky!

Man, you should have let those grow out! The caps get like 8-10 inches in diameter. Hehe, those are Little Laughing Gym Jr.s!
Awesome find, though. I have yet to run across this species.
I've read that species found West of the Rockies aren't potent or contain no Psilocybin or Psilocin. Dunno though.

i might have found a cluster of big laughing Jim today

i had no camera with me to take pictures

Today was Hot and Wet and Floodedy here in psilly@ss so.FL.

i cant be certain of my i.d. on the ones i found..
I remember exactly where they are though

they smelled like PSILOCIN and possibly displayed a slight bluing reaction on the flesh of the caps.
