Types of Cacti
    #3851648 -

Can anyone tell me where I can get a list of cacti that have mescaline present, both scientific and layman terminology. I can't seem to find it, probably staring me in the face somewhere. Thanx

There is a huge list at erowid as well.

If you want them for the mesc your best bet will be trichocereus pachanoi, trichocereus bridgesii or trichocereus peruvianus.

The first is the cacti people usually grow, it is consistently a potent cactus. Fast growing and very common.
The second is the most potent of the three, but it's slow growing and more prone to rot.
The third is a fast grower, but there are varities which are very potent (more so than pachanoi), varieties which are less potent, and varieties which are plain impotent.

I was under the impression that peruvianus were usually more potent than pachanoi. I recently recieved a peruvianus... I hope it a good variety. It looks like it would be potent. But then again that's just looks....

www.erowid.org

and for dr0mni, peruvianus and pachanoi can equally be the same potent, or one or the other. depends on the genetics and how you take care of the plant. studies have been shown that peruvianus does contain more, but that could be bias.

i'd say that pedro and peruvian torch are roughly the same in potency. though i find that trichocereus bridgesii to be the best.

I agree with Psilostylin

trichocereus bridgesii really the most potent? i find that facinating because people mostly use pedro more than any of them it seems.

That is because bridgesii is a slow grower, harder to find, and more expensive. It's not THAT much more potent, but from most things I have read/heard it is more potent.

well then, if its just slightly more potent, and doesnt grow as fast, not much more of a trade off. stick to a pedro i guess?

When I said "THAT much more" I meant something like double the potency of San Pedro (on average). It is certainly more potent though. If you really do enjoy growing cacti, then definitely pick one up. If you are looking at the "other" aspects of these cacti, I would stick to San Pedro - cheap and a fast grower.

oh haha, double then yea. i would like to find one around. i have 4 pedros and 2 peruvians. i dont even really ever like to even use the alkaloids. what i usually do, is let my cactus's grow big and nice, then when i want alkaloids, buy 24 inches of pedro off ebay or something. thats the way to do it. and i have 45 pedro seeds im still waiting to germinate.

I've found bridgesii's to be the most potent. Never had a dud bridgesii either. Best thing about them is the amount of material you need is so much less then pedros which helps with the cooking and allows you to capsulate them and not have to swallow over 50 pills.

dr0mni, T. Peruvianus seems highly variable in its content. Much of the dried tissue on the market seems to be more potent, however T. peruvianus KK242 is reported to be not very potent at all.

Could anyone provide an average dose for dried Bridgesii?

About 20-25gms of dried bridgesii from a mature plant (more then 2 inches diameter). If it's younger and skinnier it may not be as potent and you'll have to use more. They're usually much thinner then pedros so a foot of bridgesii (2 inch thick) would be about equal to a foot of pedro (4 inch thick). Can vary heaps though. Every now and then you get a killer pedro and a weak bridgesii, though I've never had a weak or dud bridgesii. Can't say the same about pedros.
