Donating my car to charity
    #3846797 -

I have decided to donate my old car to a charitble organization. They will accept non-working vehicles, pick them up themselves, and allow you write off the value of the vehicle as a charitable donation. It didn't do to well this winter.... Dead battery, flat tire, high mileage-- old car blues. I really don't want to put any more money into it as I will soon e getting married and then most likely moving off the mainland US.

I've been getting lifts from my GF or taking the bus all winter. Once Spring starts I can resume riding my bike all over town.

Good choice man, I donated my rusty old Caddy to the Special Olympics. I just left the car out with the keys and title inside and they hauled it off on a flatbed.

And more...

These are just some national organizationns who work with local charities to get cars. It has to be a 501-c-3 non-profit organization for the donate to count. It looks as though some of them will in turn sell the car, and give a percentage of the proceeds to said organiztion.

Yeah, that's a very cool thing to do. Those cars are given away free to someone in need.
What may be problems for you would be a luxury to someone else

That's great. We've donated a few cars to charity over the years. A word about the charitable deduction...if you don't file a long form it's not going to do you any good.
