my favorite dead song

so you hippies got me into the dead a little over a year ago....ive had so many "favorite" songs ....ive been listening to so much of their music..anyway i think ive finally decided that my fav dead song is "box of rain" im looking for the best live rendidtion of box of rain...any suggestions??

6-30-87 Has a nice Box of Rain.
What a great show, it was at King's Mountain. The sun was going down and shining on the mountain when Jerry looked over at it at the beginning of Fire and the crowd went wild :wink:

the thing about the dead is....90% of the songs have been one of my favorites at some time or another so listening to any show has its perks. Where is the phil mardi gras show located btw?


EDIT: Oh and as far as covers go if there are any of you who, like me, Loveeee Reuben and Cherise check out the one from 1-29-2005 by Yonder mountain string band on the archives

I really love "Ripple" but choosing my favorite would be like making "Sophie's Choice"....

I know I've blabbered on and on about Bonnaroo 2003 but they did "Box of Rain" (I've seen them do this one live probably about 40 times) and it was just hair raisingly fantastic (or maybe the shrooms were really kicking in, in either case I don't care). I really felt like I was a "moth before a flame" that night, I can tell you.... :mushroom2:

True enough, Phil's voice although beloved, has not stood the test of time.

He actually is sounding better these days than he did in the 80's and 90's with the Dead.

The Studio version of Box is the best.

My favorite has to be Jack-a-Roe. Today it is, anyway! :tongue:There is a version on dick's pick's 29 that is the best that I have heard, so far. Smoking!! They Love Each Other is up there, too. :heart:

Box of Rain was the first song I heard when the mushrooms really started to kick in on my first ever shroom trip - it had never sounded like that before and will never sound the same to me ever again!!!

Favorite dead song, nearly impossible to answer.

At first, I loved Box of Rain, and still do.
Sugar Magnolia may of been the one that got me hooked.
Right now, I'm digging Unbroken Chain.
But I honestly can say I like/love just about every dead song.

Yeah Ripple is up there, but you need to listen to some of the better "Eyes of the World" versions, the one on Dicks Picks 31 is up there!
