Sorry mj, wish I could be more incouraging, but that is the monstrose form of the plant commonly known as "Cereus peruvianus."

Wow, I'd love to have one of those tops when they decide to trim it up!

i'd love to see something so beautiful. but it looks as though there will be some problems in a couple of monthes, due to it's massive size. it looks as though it's almost to the top of the greenhouse. it would be a shame to top such a beauty. awesome photo mj, always been a fan.

It's good to see you here MS Smith. I haven't seen you post on these boards before. I remember your cacti mastery from other forums.

MJ or M S Smith - If one were to top that cactus and plant it, would it continue the monstrose characteristics? It looks like the pups are monstrose. And do monstrose cacti grow any faster or slower than an average cactus of the same species? Thanks!  :peace:

if by "potent" you mean the opposite of "impotent" as in "fully erect"
then i aggree, however, if you mean a potent ethno, then no.
it doesn not contain mescalaine. and trimming it up would only serve to create cuttings for new growth.

Yep ToolTrol, it will continue to grow monstrose. Even if you were to only take a center cut with no tip the plant would set pups that would be monstrose.
