Gonna buy a truck. Got any opinions? *update...decision made*

Its time to get myself a decent truck.  I've been driving beaters forever.  I want something that I can rely on for not just my everyday work and use but long trips as well.  And I need 4WD for all the off-road and camping I do.  Here is the truck I am contemplating...


I can factory order this truck, built to these exact specifications, and have it delivered to me in about 10-12 weeks.  It'll cost me right around $27,500 out the door (after all taxes, fees, etc).

Or I could go with a used model.  Similar trucks that are one or two years old with anywhere from 15K-40K miles on them are running around $20,000.  But then I have to settle for what I can find and not get exactly everything as I want it.

Saving money is always a good thing in my book.  But keep in mind, I plan on owning this truck for many years.  I'm not the kind of guy who gets tired of a vehicle and has to go swap it out every few years (that would be my wife! :smirk: ).  And I'm also no the kind of guy who buys a truck to be cool.  I want a 4WD truck because I will actually use it!  I fully expect to have scratches and dents in this vehicle within the first 6 months.  Its just the nature of what I do.

Anyone own a Dogde Ram truck?  I like the Fords also but I'm not keen on the Chevys right now.  Any suggestions or opinions on a truck purchase?

I love my dodge. Its a v8 the larger engine too, I get and average of 11.5 miles to the gallon and spend 40 bucks every 3 days. My transmisiion id about shot at 70 thosand miles, so that a couple g's. Other then that its good. Depends on why you want it and how much driving you do. But ur girl can sit right next to ya witch is key in my life.

Get the hemmi, or the cummings diesel. The diesel gets 15 on average.

Most of my driving is around town and work related. I don't travel a whole lot, but when I do it usually gets rough. I almost always end up on some back-country 4WD trail. I also don't pull a trailer or haul heavy loads.

I don't want the larger engine. Don't need it. And I'd rather save on the fuel consumption.

Don't want the hemi and the diesel is not available until you get into the heavy duty trucks. All I want/need is a half-ton pickup.

Looks like a great truck! It's got the power you need, but I dunno about gas mileage. Personally, I'd get a used one if I had the money, but then again, Imma cheap bastard....

I get 11 miles to the gallon on the v8 350 I think it's a 350. 1500 laramie slt

I used to have a Toyota Tacoma. But I want a full size truck now and I'm not real keen on the Tundra. Besides, they cost even more than the Dodge!

What about manual transmissions?  I have always preferred a stick shift.  The dealer looks at you like you are retarted when you say you want a manual tranny. :shrug:

I used to work at a used car lot for 2 years, and would only buy either a dodge or chevy. They have the best resail value and IMO are the most rugged and dependable. But you should check out the new Honda truck 06 it's gonna be bad ass!

Mine is automatic. Never seen a stick dodge. manual is good for pullin loads n what not, I would rather have a manual as well.
You can buy mine if you like. 2001 white fully loaded leather, power, heated seats, lumbar support, wood grain console

I've only ever had used cars, now granddad passed down his car which is as old as I am. Man if you've got the money buy the car of your dreams, because maybe one day you'll have responsibility which would force you to buy a car through necessity. As lest then you can say that you had funky Dodge, OHHH YYER those cars are sexy. :thumbup: :thumbup: :cool:

i just kinda put two and two tagether and came up with the visualisation of a 55 gallon oil drum is what I go threw in an average week. I got to say I am totaly disgusted!
