The "angry drunk guy"
    #3802986 - 02/19/05 10:49 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

I have a local bar that I hang out at. It is convinient since I can walk there and not have to worry about driving. I have been a regular there since it opened almost 3 years ago and now whenever I go in I see people that I know (other regulars). It makes it nice because there is always a friend to hang out with when I go over for a drink.

Enter Justin; the "angry drunk guy". Thats how I refer to him now. I run into him at the bar at least once every other week, if not more. And every single time I have ever seen him its the same thing. He is completely shitfaced and really belligerent. And I mean he is always drunk to the point of passing out on the bar. And when he is not passing out he is busy glowering at everyone and threatening to 'kick your ass' if you look at him sideways.

He is a friend of some of the other regulars that I hang out with. Last night (after someone had to drive him home...again) I asked them about him. I wanted to know what his problem is. Why is he so angry all the time? His friends swore to me that he's not really like that. He has an immaculate house and a good job and they swear he is a nice guy. But I find it so hard to believe. The only experiences I have had with him are horrible. I've never been able to have a civil conversation with the guy. And I'm the kind of person that can make friends with anyone when hanging out in a bar. But not Justin, as nice as I've tried to be I have just learned that its a better policy just to avoid him.

Now it would be easy for me to blame alcohol for this mans problems. He is obviously a chronic alcoholic (even his friends verified that fact). But I think it has to run a lot deeper than that. You can't blame alcohol for his shitty attitude. The guy has never smiled once that I have seen. And he has never been friendly towards anyone either (he even gets shitty with his own 'friends'). And it seems to me that this guy is using alcohol to drown some other deep rotted problems he must have. I just hate to think how miserable his existence must be.

I try to see the positive in everyone, but I'm having a hard time with Justin. The only thing positive I can get from him is a valuable life lesson. He is a shining example of how alcohol and drugs will never solve anyones problems. So don't try to hide from your problems through subtance abuse or you to may become the "angry drunk guy".

Trust me, the thought has crossed my mind!

Problem is that it would make no difference with this guy.  He'd be back the next week in the same condition and then I'd have to do it again.  Then it would become our weekly ritual....he shows up drunk, I kick his ass, we both get 86ed. :smirk:

And also, he is a big dude and I'm afraid he'd be a real handful even when drunk.  And then I'd feel like a real moron if some drunk idiot got the better of me!

Try to meet him sober. You might be surprised.

Yeah seriously. I've found myself behaving like a fucking retard while drunk but I'd never guess it sober. Alcohol is a fucked up substance.

Actually, that can be quite true. I used to work at a liquor store/bar in Florida, and I knew a guy like that. He was as nice as can be sober, but pour a few drinks into him and he turned into a belligerent asshole...

Approcach him subtly and tell him a about an amazing martial arts movie you saw last night, if he seems interested do not fight the guy!

Alcohol dillutes the effects of ecstacy.  Something I learned first hand on New Year's Eve.
