    #3785988 - 02/15/05 09:02 PM (19 years, 4 days ago)

Hey, I'm new to The Shroomery, so I'd first off like to say hi to everyone, so.... HI!

I was at a park today and found two mushrooms and picked them, but before I go and start eating,, I'd like to make sure I dont like, you know... die from them... anyways, I have two pics, one of the cap and one of the gills... I cut the tips of the stem off (where the dirt was) to see if the stems were hollow, they feel hollow, but dont look it... I'd really appreciate the help, I really am very new at this.

Those are pretty poor pix to be tryin to make a valid ID- take a spore print, describe it better

I would Definitely NOT eat it tho- with those white gills... cant be a good sign for edibility

whats your location generally, what habitat- (besides a park and dirt) were they found in..

It is critical that you describe mushrooms fully and accurately in order to get a proper identification.

A good picture of the mushrooms is invaluable.

Along with the pictures (if possible), please include the following:

a. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on)
b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)
c. Measurements of cap and stem.
d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
f. Spore print color (very important!)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises
h. Scent of mushroom

To make a spore print cut the cap from the stem and place it face down on a sheet of white paper and let it sit over night. Place a drinking glass over the top of it to maintain humidity. After about 12 hours you should be able to see spores deposited on the paper. You need to tell us what color the spores are. I suspect that your mushrooms will drop white spores, which can be hard to see on white paper. You have two mushrooms, so it may be a good idea to make one spore print on white paper and one on black paper. Aluminum foil will also work if you don't have black paper.

From the info you have provided so far, I can tell you that your mushrooms are not active. All mushrooms should be considered poisonous until an accurate ID proves otherwise.
