II. Accurate mushroom descriptions

It is critical that you describe mushrooms fully and accurately in order to get a proper identification.

A good picture of the mushrooms is invaluable.

Along with the pictures (if possible), please include the following:

a. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on)
b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)
c. Measurements of cap and stem.
d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
f. Spore print color (very important!)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises
h. Scent of mushroom

Hard to tell, Looks similar to a Cantharellus or Lactarius. But might be Hygrophoropsis or any other number of mushrooms.
Need spore color for sure, Take a print or look for a scattering of them at the base of the stipe on the log.
Where are they geographicly found?
But surely not active.

Based on appearance and habitat they will be from one of the genera near Pleurotus.

A very important characteristic will be to see what the edges of the gills look like. Are they straight edged, serrated, or even sawtoothed?

Happy mushrooming!

Oh, yeah, the log. See what happens when trying to go by "Looks Like"

I'm going fishing, maybe I'll find some mushrooms while I'm out...
Might be a few little grey morels popping up, it's been warm, but I bet I have a week or two. Sure I'll find a Gyromitra or Sarcoscypha though. I also seem to find something similar to Urnula craterium but silkier and really pretty, maybe I can request an ID tonight.
