Sony camera (IEEE1394) not recognized by windows
    #3758479 - 02/09/05 08:25 PM (18 years, 1 month ago)

Well I just got premiere pro 1.5 installed, and am really excited to use it. However my Sony DCR-TRV70 camera isn't recognized when I plug it in with firewire. This is really strange because before I got my new harddrive it worked just fine. Also, to add to the confusion my iPod still is recognized and that is through firewire. I don't even know where to begin, I guess my cable could be faulty, but I really don't think that is the case seeing as it has worked in the past. I have the correct setting on my camera and my computer and I am just lost. I guess the next logical step would be to use a friend camera with my computer and wire or use my cam and wire on their computer to rule out things.

Sounds like you need to install drivers for your camera so that winblows will know how to talk with it.

Here is the site: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-list.pl?template=EN&mdl=DCRTRV70

But I only see USB drivers... might try to install the USB driver and hope they included firewire support as well.

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot when the i.LINK? (IEEE 1394) connection is not recognized by the computer when connecting the digital camcorder.

IMPORTANT: Some digital camcorders must be set up to output a signal through the i.LINK? port prior to being connected to a computer. Consult the instruction manual of the camcorder for specific information.

NOTE: For the computer to recognize a MICROMV? camcorder, MovieShaker? software must be used.

Ensure the i.LINK? cable is connected properly to the camera and computer.
Connect the i.LINK? cable to a different i.LINK? port on the computer, if applicable.
Connect a different i.LINK? cable to the camera and computer.
NOTE: If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required.
