Most nutritious substrate
    #374856 - 08/19/01 10:42 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

I would just like some of your input on this matter.
PF claims that his substrate produces more potent mushrooms, while I must respect his work, I see other master growers using rye and so on.
What are your thoughts on this? Does brf/verm lead to more potent mushrooms with larger output or does rye take the lead on this?

Any and all input is appreciated.
Thanks and peace to all.

Find a copy of this book in an alternative/used bookstore to answer all your questions.
"Psychedelic Monographs & Essays vol 6", it contains an article by C.B. Gold addressing just this matter.:)

Grain based substrates do yield more potent fruits, this is true...However, this falls into a quality vs. quantity issue...If you are growing for you and a friend or two to partake, this is the way to go. Straw, dung/compost will guarantee quantity(and size) if that is what you are looking for, enough to share with the whole class, but the potency of these mediums have been argued back and forth with many(including myself) finding that these are marginally weaker in potency, in particular straw grown mushies...
