Mushrooms in my backyard
    #371978 - 08/14/01 10:03 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

Alright here is a scan of the shrooms I pulled out of some bark/mulch yesterday. It didn't rain, but we did have the sprinklers on the night before. They smell exactly like the trippin shrooms I've eaten before, but I haven't noticed any blueing(sp?).

Any body got an ID on these babies? They are from UT. Are these hallucinagenic?

Nope, not hallucinogenic.
Paneaolus, for sure, though!
I could be wrong. Don't count on it , though.

Just for the sake of helping me learn.....could you tell me what things helped you to identify it as Panaeolus, but not hallucinagenic? Is it the absence of blueing? Are Panaeolus poisonous? What percentage of Panaeolus species are hallucinagenic?

I dont' know the percentage of Psilocybian vs. non-Psilocybin in the Panaeolus species.
The black gills gives it away! Like I said, I could be wrong. The simple fact that you found them in the area described, points to my thinking that they aren't active.
I can only go by what I know now. There's a chance, man.
:)
Stay cool!-Levi7.

i however would say that you have a psychoactive speceis there. it grew on your grass multch right? and those are pretty much the same as the ones you showed us before? well they are dry and it makes it a bit trickier. but id say yes, looks like a psychoactive panaeolus.

Before I jump up and down and fall out of my chair I've got a couple of more questions.

They grew in a bark/mulch bed in my yard. I am confused because I've never posted any pictures before. Are any panaeolu poisonous?

If these babies are psychoactive It'll be the craziest thing. I've been trying to get some shrroms in UT for over 2 months now and been coming up dry. What a strange bit of luck to have them right there all the while.

Let me know if you still think they are psychoactive....so I can celebrate accordingly.

bark mulch? no, i was thinking it was grass multch.
heres what you pught to do, save them and post some fresh ones when they come up, till then hang on. the bark mulch makes them more likely a psathyrella. im assuming of course you took a print and it way black right?

actually chuck em, sorry to get your hopes up, i think what you actually got is one of these.

they look alot like shrooms, purple-brown print, but i think they are more likely a type of neamatoloma.
chuck em, i noticed the exposed gill on one and it had that sorta marroon look to it, its the one near the middle of your shot.

I don't have a spore print, but I have read how to do it. I'll be sure to check for more when I get home tonight and will definitely scan a fresh one if I find one.

Is it possible that these particular shrooms are poisonous?

thanks for all the help
