marasmius oreiades is called the fairy ring mushroom. but not because it is the only mushroom that grows in rings. i say that because i assume you found a ring and decided it might be the fairy ring...lots of mushrooms are known to grow in rings...if the mushrooms you found were small (1-2 inches) with mostly white flesh and cap, maybe a tinge of brownish, tannish tones, and it has a pleasant smell, along with a nipple like umbo in the center. it might be marasmius.
they are really common in yards and open grassy areas.....if it is the marasmius, it is edible enough that some people go looking for it. sorry no magic.
good luck, peace, oh....try to post some pics?...

Just thought I'd add to the list of mushroom species I've actually seen growing in fairy rings:

Amanita muscaria
Armillaria ostoyae
Chlorophyllum molybdites
Hebeloma crustuliniforme
various puffballs

Happy mushrooming!

For a novel effect, you can dig a circular trench around a tree, and do a shallow moes tek in the trench.

This is a novelty, for looks... pretty girl stuff.
I think it would be cool, despite my masculinity, to have a stepping stone walkway through a ethobotanical garden, with a bolder off the trail thats under a shade tree, with one of these artificial fairy rings growign around it : )

It would be cool if it were a beer tree!
