Samurai Champloo
    #3714019 -

I have recently watched the first season of this anime from the creators of kill bill, animatrix, cowboy bebop. I really enjoy the style, and it's hard to explain. It's set in the endo period of japan, but for some reason there are ninjas that go around tagging buildings, people wearing sunglasses, beatboxing, handguns, elevators, etc. They use of water colors, and paying particular attention to how colors are used. Modern music is played throughout each episode, it's hip hop electronic and psycadelic... and integrated very much like jazz in the Cowboy Bebop series.

If anyone has the opportunity to see these episodes... seek them out. Particularly episode 9, where the entire field of marijunana burns down to the ground and everyone in the surrounding vacinity gets high.

I saw the first 2 eps of Samurai Champloo at GenCon last year, it looked quite badass. You said "the first season," do you mean there is more to it?

Yeah, the second season is just now being aired. I don't know how many of the second season were produced, or how many are already out; I have number 18 which is the first one in the second season. I really wish I knew how to screen capture a movie file... but even if I could no single frame would do it justice.
