These are the kind of toads that have poison glands that produce poison that act as a hallucinogen to humans. I've been doing lots of studying on the magnificent toads and i know i could take care of them. I have always had many pets and these toads are no harder to maintain than some of the pets I've had. I think it would be a very unique experience to own them and try their venom. Another note licking them is not good for them or you, you have to dry and smoke the venom.

Personally, as an animal lover, i'd be against putting any of my animals in a situation in which they felt they had to defend themselves.
If you can find a way to harvest them without causing them undue stress, than kudos. But i don't think it's right.

they don't have to be threatened. if put a piece of plastic around there ear area with minimal pressure a small amount comes out involuntarily. and it take a tiny drop to be effective. it no worse than wen people raise snakes for their venom the snake is not harmed. the only thing i would be worried about is the terrarium being broke for whatever reason and one of my ferrets, cat, or dogs getting them because then I'd lose a toad and another pet. so I'd be sad .

If it's possible to harvest venom in quantity (over time) and not cause stress, than feel free.
Put the terrarium on a shelf or somewhere that isn't much frequented, and your "broken" problem solves itself.
IF you have any links on humane venom harvesting for this species, i'd be appreciative if you could post them for me.
Personally, i'd be just as concerned a current pet would attempt to eat them. But if your pets deal well with each other, i don't think they'd try to eat the toads. Make sure and introduce them. That'll solve your problems.

here is a link and the shelf had to be away from the main part of the house anyway because they hate sound vibration, it causes stress.

Interesting.
I've had friends keep sensitive species on a vibration proofing foam in a bedroom before.
They were healthy fuckers.
If you do this, please post care/harvesting/general experiences/tips. Or at least send me updates.

Dude, no offense, but if i printed out my personal psychoactive archives and dropped them on your foot, you'd suffer multiple fractures. I know what it does, it's just the harvesting/keeping that i'm iffy about. A good write up of your experiences with the keeping of the toads would be a good addition to Erowid, or at least my archives.
Reptiles take a bit of transition to get used to. I'd suggest you get a more typical pet species to work with first, just to familiarize yourself with them.

Can you drop me a PM if you find a reliable site to get Bufo Alvarus? I wanted to try raising a couple myself some day.

You actually have to consume their entire back, dried out, to get a psychoactive effect.

Food animals are not pets.
The difference in purpose makes for different treatment. Altho, if forced to make the decision between eating a pet and starving, a pet would probably have its status revoked right quick.

I've read it written at Erowid and in McKenna books. I don't think they'd lie, they have no reason.
