If you want powdered (or just smaller pieces of) CaCO3 then just take your crushed shells and dumpt them into your coffee grinder, grind to the consistancy toy want. a little goes a long way!

Yes powdered is better. Very little since the pH should be close. You should add about 30% verm if you can to the coir. You only need like 2-5% oyster shell for the coir..if you do add verm that doesnt count to the 2-5%...you put coir and add water..then mix in the shells in 2-5% (depends upon coir)..you can eyeball it..I just dump in some...then add 30% verm. PC it is best (in jars for 30 minutes) but I suppose you could microwave it for like 10 minutes...its safe to put in (need it to be wet though I think) but I dont know how well it sterilizes things. People say it does...but I dont trust them so I use my PC.

They will work only if ground to a powder. Coffee grinder is what I use, and it powderized them very nicely. As far as sterility, always sterilize or pasturize casing mixes. GL guys
