You won't go wrong with spores101.

New Shroomer & Mushroom Friend: My point of view on the debate between casing/cakes: If you can get the moisture content right to grow the cakes, you can do a casing. Yea, I see what you mean about just fruiting from the cake for your first grow, but I would think a 50/50 thing would be in the right order here. Half cakes put the rest in a casing or two.

Don't you put a few cakes into each casing?  That's what I mean by when a casing messes up, you lose several cakes (and several weeks of time.)  There are good arguments to be made for both sides of the cakes/casings argument, and I've said mine, so I can't really say any more :wink:  In the end, demon, you judge your ability to do a casing, see if you think you can handle it and if it's worth the risk, and if you're willing to do it by all means do it.

You can do tons of substrate easily and if done correctly, by the casing stage theres very little chance for contams. I see no reason not to start with casings if you feel able. There isnt much more risk at all...

Obvious I agree with scatmanrav :thumbup:

Also and maybe again:
Applying the casinglayer, the biggest difference between a fruitcake and a casing, isnt going to be easier if you do cakes first.... And it isnt THAT hard either.

The risks are overrated, and even though mushrooms and the process need attention, sterility, fresh air and moist, it still aint rocket science! :laugh:

Enough TEKS to guide you through the process, just like the PF tek there are casing TEKS etc...
If you have like 6 cakes, fruit 3 pieces PF style and case the other 3!

PS: I started with cakes on purpose since I considered it a *classic must*. You can also do a casing first and then a cake or 2! :thumbup:

And btw. From my first syringe I did cakes and grain spawn to poo cased. I don't see one being any harder then the other. Just diffent tech and one NEEDS a PC. Poo is great. I even droped one casing and had the poo spill out onto my floor. I said fuck it and scooped it back in just to see. I got a shity pin set cause it was so uneven when I cased but no contams and enough mush to keep me happy.
