Smell from my incubation chamber...

On the 14th i put 8 half pint pf cakes (jars) into the incubation chamber.
I opened it a few times since then to check on things, and theres a slight (musty, kinda) odor that I can smell if i lean into the tub. After the lid has been off for a minute or two however it's gone.
Is this perhaps co2 building up since it seals? I left it cracked about a half inch, and a few hours later had no smell. My myc growth looks fine so I'm not thinking it's contaminated, but I've read over and over on this site that smell = contams.
Any ideas?

If there are no visual signs of contamination then I wouldn't worry too much about a slight smell, especially if it goes away after you open the lid after a few minutes.

it could be something other than a contam, just keep an eye on them and you'll know for sure...

No bleach in the TiT water, it's tap water heated with a submersible heater.
And yea, the myc so far looks fine, a bit whispy but it's just beginning so I'll give it time before I start worrying about cobweb. I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to toss them due to a slight smell.
Phantasm: I do have a rye jar clonizing as well, so perhaps that could explain it.
THanks alot for your help, you guys are great.

put some bleach in the water or it will go stagnant and mold/mildew will grow it in, you dont want that shit by your jars/work area

I thinks it's proly your jars of seed, or the plastic that smells. CO2 is orderless as far as I know, and your mycl. is most likly to small right now to make any noticble diffrence. I have my friuting chamber that is in it's test run right now, and the thing that I've noticed throughout the years of cultivating with rubbermaids and the like, is that there seems to be a slight musky smell to them when their heated and sealed for a while, even when theres nothing in them.

my incubator always smells a little weird when i peep in there, but it goes away. i think it's just the stagnant air since i only open it 3-4 times from start to finish. oh well...

Stagnant air in a TIT can smell weird. Its a SOUR smell you need to worry about. Also if contamed..you can put your nose up to the filter in your jars and the smell will be much stronger and DEFINATLY sour and nasty..

I'll just chime in here and say I use tap water from a well without any help from H2O2 or bleach and my Fruiting Chamber smells a bit off. I think it's just stagnant air. I could be wrong but my mushies seem ok and no signs otherwise of contams. As for my incubator, well it just smells a bit rubbery or plasticish in there.

It's just the CO2. If it builds up it can be quite strong, and it almost burns if you take a big whif.
