Perlite method Ventilation
    #363549 - 07/30/01 09:22 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

After doing some more research, I have decidided that I will just buy a 10-gal clear Rubbermaid container, using the perlite for humidification. One thing hasn't been made clear after doing the research, though: What should I use to take air into the tank, and what should I use to take air out? I am worried about contamination if I just took the lid off and "fanned" it out. Also, how often should it be ventilated?

I simply take the lid off and fan it. Fully colonized, healthy cakes are quite resistant to contams. Most contams are brought on by weakened mycelium and stagnant air. Regular fanning and good humidity levels should keep your cakes or casings healthy.
It never hurts to be cautious but it can be overdone to the point of hindering progress by complicating things. Keep it simple and you'll be successful.

Thanks for the info. One thing I forgot to ask is: If either a humidifier or perlite is going to be used, is a casing for the substrate still necessary?

a good and maintanence free way to use perlite is to get a filter patch, put a hole in the lid, replace it with the filter patch, and then put another small hole in the lid for the airpump hose to go in. then, you connect the airhose to the airpump, then put the airhose through the small hole you made. then you just let the airpump go 24/7 and it is maintanence free (except for picking the shrooms) and there you go!!! i dont use pelite, but ryche hawk sure brags alot on this method.

i may, fucking drop something natural somewhere and it might grow into another piece of shit like you. i dont recognize any of you fucking people, youre not real, you came out of comic books.

If you use perlite casing is not necessary, you can grow on cakes. If your humidifier can get the humidity up high enough you can grow with cakes there aswell. And just fan for ventilation

I don't care about jack shit, I just wanna pick my nose!!!
