When people talk about mushroom aborts what exactly do they mean?

Aborts are pins that will never reach full size. They are small and have dark caps (usually black). If they are not removed, they will begin to rot and introduce contamination.
Just be careful not to pull out the shrooms that are gonna grow. If you see what you think might be an abort but aren't too sure, let it go for a day. If it doesn't get any bigger just pull it out. Don't throw them out as they are still good.

Thank you very much for the good info. I was also wondering about little round balls that look like mushroom material without black tops are they aborts?
