Neutralizing casing

what is the best base to add to your casing substrate to neutralize the acid? At the store, they have several different brands of lime-does it matter which one you use? I have litmus paper, so I won't have problems with adding too much base...

hey Dimitri211, Not to be a shit or nothing, but as far as i Know there is no such thing as " dehydrated" lime, it's hydrated lime. And the reason that you don't use dolomite lime is the magnesium content.( Shrooms don't like magnesium) However hydrated lime has less than 3 percent magnesium. Don't want our freinds looking like an ass, when they ask for it at store do we ? Hope this is helpful.

To be honest, and I know alot of people will give me shit for this.. but I use lime for curing concrete... Used in such a SMALL concentration (appx. 1:1000 ratio) it brings the pH up so fast that only 4.5 grams are needed for every pound of wet peat moss upto a 7.0 pH. Now if 4.5 grams go into 1 lb of wet peat, and this covers appx. 5 sq. ft. this means that based on a 4lb sq/ft yield (which is low for B+) that 20 wet lbs are grown over the cropping cycle. Yielding ~2lbs dry weight. Now assuming these are above average size guys say 3.5 grams each or so, thats 256 mushrooms in 2 lbs, which equates to 17.6 mg of lime per mushroom. This is also assuming they absorb 100% of the lime... which isn't realistic either, prolly more in the range of 10-20%. Regardless, worse case scenario 17.6 mg's of concrete lime isn't going to kill you. Ripper
