What type of light to use for PiN formatiOn?

My friend was wondering what type of light is necessary for pin formation? Can he just use a regular desk lamp light (those clip on things) and a regular desk lamp to induce inviro pinning AND to initiate pins once the cakes have already been birthed if they were not able to pin invitro? He's heard things about incandescent/flourescent lights, especially blue lights, being helpful, or even necessary. Will a regular clip on desk lamp hanging about 5 feet away from the cakes in a closet be sufficient to form pins, or no? He has had success with this method, but sometimes it takes him a very long time for results, if any at all. Thanks for your help in advance...

These kinds of mushrooms need minimal light. Any , daily , light source will do.

Your friend should be fine with a desk lamp:) Mushrooms enjoy the blue spectrum of light. Flourecents have stronger amounts of blue than a normal light bulb would... But, I believe that mushroom need only a few miliseconds of blue light to form properly. Rememeber, the light only really tells the mushroom what direction to grow.

A friend of mine uses both light bulbs and flourcents. The bulbs for a little added heat and the flourecents...well, just cause she can:)

light is what makes the mycelium produce the hormaone that produces shrooms. you barely need any light and any kind should do. some will do better though.
