Well in my area of Minnesota, there has been a very persistent and what i believe to be very untrue rumor that if you undulge in magic mushrooms more than 3 times in your life you are "legally insane."
Ok, so lets discuss this.

The authorities don't like it when people think for themselves, psychedelics open/expand your mind; thus making you think for yourself, so they spread all sorts of lies to dissuade people from taking psychedelics. Very few people want to be insane, or to be considered insane, so..............

That rumor was originally "if you have more than 3 hits of acid in your lifetime you are considered legally insane." The first one is mad retarded in itself, but the one you just posted makes me want to fly to your town and start clubbing dumbasses.

I dunno - maybe I am insane and maybe it was the shrooms - either way, i'm not complaining - I definately know it was responsible for some of the best things happening in my life...

Yeah, when I was in high school kids would say "Did you know if you take x hits of acid...blah blah blah", "Did you hear about the kid who did shrooms and jumped off the building, etc.". It's all bullshit. If the 3 times a lady mushroom insanity theory was true, this place would be the most insane place in the world.

Timothy Leary proposed an eight circuit model of consciousness. Most people, he said, were operating with only the first four circuits operating. These folks were tribal moralists. They are the church people, patriots, etc. Some people have more then 4 circuits operating, from things like experiencing freefall at the right time, using drugs, etc. Those with 5 operating are hedonists. Since drugs open up other circuits of consciousness, they are a threat to tribal moralists. So, we can see rumors like "Do shrooms and you are legally insane" as an attempt by the tribal moralists (those with 4 circuits working) to avoid the threat of people experiencing the later four circuits.
