perlite instead of vermiculite...?
    #3537517 - 12/23/04 08:55 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

one of my jars is starting to pin and ive got a 1" mushroom growing inside thats about a cm thick, so im assuming its time to put her in the terrarium. i went out to get perlite, but of the stores that were open none had perlite, so i was wondering if i could substitute with vermiculite. i wanna get this up in running asap, i last checked my jars yesterday when i noticed the mushroom. i think they started to pin cause i took a t shirt that was used as a second layer covering the jars (ran out of clean clothes).

unless u guys advise not use vermiculite or whether i can go ahead without either, could u guys give any tips to a noob doing the transfer? should i switch both cakes, even tho my other one has not yet started to pin?

thanks

i've decided to use geolite instead of perlite cuz its easier to find, its less messy and u dont have to change it as often.
