Personaly i wouldnt eat any mush from the wild, partly due to many places stating that id'ing mush's is something even people with phd's in the subject can find hard sometimes with the shroom right in front of them. You can try them if you want, but id just stick to growing my own outta that pile'o'shit.

thats just my thoughts on eating and wild shroom, no offense to the people that do go hunting though.

Give it up for Windex. I can see that you want to have a mushroom experience. The best advice is to get some spores. There are many, many places to get spores now and lots of great ways to grow mushrooms. There's even a free-spore-ring on this board. You can get tons of info on these boards about it.
Also, there's tons of info about wild mushrooms on the net, too. Go to www.shroomery.org/ and look under General info then Mapping the Mycelial Network. There you'll find the magic mushrooms in your area.
Actually, the only magic mushroom that grows in cow fields in Ohio is Panaeolus subbalteatus. You'll find tons of info about that one. Also, this is not what you found.
Good luck!-Levi7.

What are you doing in the hunting forum if you personally wouldn't eat anything from the wild? Its much easier than you think to ID a mushroom(especially active species) and if you did a litttle research, you'd know that. IMO, picking what mother nature grows for you is much safer than leaving food in a jar for a month hoping the right kind of fungus colonizes your jar and not some lethal mold. Not to mention the legal issues that come with cultivation.

As long as your not color blind, picking wild mushrooms is very safe if you take the time to educate yourself before you eat something you pick.

In short...please don't come to this forum to discourage the very thing we are here to encourage just because you aren't capable of learning how to ID active mushrooms.

from the shroomery's own find page:

Shroom hunting in the wild can also be very productive, but unless you know exactly* what you're looking for, you could accidentally pick and eat, oh, say an Amanita Phallodies mushroom which would cause liver failure and a slow, painful death.

also by the post the guy didnt seem to know much if anything about shrooms other then you can find them in shit, and you can trip of some of them.

in response to:

i usually sit around the home page and watch the lastest posts scroll by, when i find one that catched my attention i read it, and if i feel inspired i will reply.

I agreed with windex on the account of 2low4afathoe's living in Ohio. In his case, the only psilocbyian mushroom he'd have found in the cow field was Panaeolus subbalteatus. His other choices would be Gymnopilus species, which we all know are very hard to consume. And then, Ps. caerulipes, which I definitely should have mentioned might be very difficult to find. Thus growing them would be much safer than trying to find the very few Psilocybians in Ohio.
But, Lizard King, you are correct in your statements. And I, for one, am not at all knowledgeabe in mushroom growing. So, in my case, finding wild mushrooms and IDing them would safer. But in my area, there are really good chances of finding a magic mushroom this time of year. If I were in Ohio, I probably wouldn't find anything at all.
Stay cool!-Levi7.
