Importance of sterilizing perlite

My perlite is about 2 months old. Is it highly important to sterilize it. How much higher is the contam risk. thanks for the help

rinse it in a strainer and then when i fill it back up i add some H2O2 to it but im getting those hydro stones soon yeah they are supposed to work so much better
