seed question for ppl in the know

hey all you advanced mycologists out there, i have been wanting to try my hand at birdseed for a while now, but i am unable to find "finch seed" here in oz. is it ONLY the millet from this seed that is wanted? i ask because a health food store near me has every sort of grain/seed imaginable, whole and (better suited to my purposes, ground). which brings me to my second question; what is the best grain/seed to use with verm and water in pf jars. does anyone have a good recipe utilising the pf jar recipe with brf substituted for a mix of grain/seed.

also, i bought a bag labelled "brown rice flour" and the ingredients reveal it is actually rice flour and rice bran. how will this affect growth if at all? luckily i found real brf soon after...

Normal birdseed (steeped 45 min and mixed with gypsum, drained...then P.C.'d 45min@ 15p.s.i.) worked the same for my friend as peningtons finch seed.
I would guess that the rice flour/bran would definatly work as a brf replacement but the yeilds and potency might fluctuate. Let us know what happens.

i have a feeling that bags of brf i used in the past are the same thing, the real brf was a totally dif brand in a dif store... if it is this false brf i have used in the past then it works as a fine substitute...
what i really want to know is if millet is the stuff ppl want out of the birdseed, coz i just bought a ag of ground millet. i need to know what sort of ground grains/seed would give the biggest, most potent fruits (eg millet meal, rye flour, brf, quinoa, etc...)

Yes, basicaly it is, It?s just that the millet in birdseed still has a husk attaching to the seed. That seems to be quite important.

coz i am not able to buy finch seed, yet i am able to buy whole millet and ground millet (which i bought today...)
