I'm making compost for my "oyster" mushrooms and the recipe calls for cotton seed hulls and rape seed meal . I can only find rape seeds and not the meal. Can I use this instead? I also can't find the cotton seed hulls any ideas for substitutes for both ?

If you grind the rape seeds you should get (fat)meal.
I think those stuff is used because it?s a way of using a waste product effectively. You can use anything that is similar in the nutrients to the above stuff, for instance brown rice flour or bran. The drawback is that it?s more expensive.
