How important is the "complete" dark period to induce flowering?

My buddy has 2 4 inch vent fans on the door which might get a few minutes of light every morning... Im guessing that its not so important, their being moon light and what not here on earth.

moon light isn't strong enough.... few minutes of sunlight in the morning can do harm for sure.

When a plant is flowering it need uninterrupted darkness. Light makes it have to start all over again from scratch building up certain hormones. These basic studies were done with assays of the material with varied light wavelengths and photoperiod timing with correlated assay.

yes anything but total darkness will effect yield so it's not something you wanna overlook

not just yield, it can stress the plant into producing male flowers. which we all know, can ruin a crop. a plant must have complete darkness when grown indoors...or failure will soon follow.

This isnt dirrect light tho(incandecent).. 2 4" holes.. One at pot(Bucket) level and one 6 feet up..

I will still tell him to cover them up but will it actualy make a big differance?

FYI You can make "femanized" seeds by giving flowering females full light at night durring flower. It stresses them and they go hermie then seed themselves.

I wouldnt worry too much about the fan holes, between the fans and ducts you should have enough blockage. You should always have some sort of light trap on your inlets, for security reasons. A few mat black painted PVC or tin 45-90 deg elbows work well for most small cabs.

If it is truly indirect light, and you can put some sort of dark cloth shield around the vent holes to further reduce light penetration into your grow space, you should have nothing to worry about.

Oh and about your post grower.. Their is a better chance of the seeds growing out and becoming hermie seeds.

And he just used some extra mylar he had laying around, to fill the gaps.. Thanks guys
