I have a cooler set up as a terrarium and I have two warm white florescent lights going all the time to keep the temputature up. If anyone has found something easilly availabel (and preferable small) that is good for raiseing the tempurature, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!
Always remember, the glass is ALWAYShalf-full!

Heat pads work well. You can get them at any pet shop. They are flat, so they take up practically no room, and you can stick them underneath the terrarium.

Heating pads for seed germination work well, because they don't get too hot to kill the mushies. You can also buy more expensive setups that provide a completely even temperature delivery and no hot spots. I got a nice heating pad from good ol' walmart for like 15 bones.
Tired of pimping yourself on the corner to afford spores? Well throw out that red dress and go to the FSR, for spores even you can afford.

If you have a styrophome ice box then I suggest cutting out a small piece of the bottom. Then silicon glue a piece of plexiglass onto the bottom, this will create a small "dish" on the bottom of the tank because of the missing styrophome. I fill that "dish" with soaked perlite (the cakes rest on the perlite). On the bottom of the tank I attached a small turtle aquiriam heater I picked up from petco for 15 bucks. This in turn keeps the temp up and well humidfied. I also ran a tube into the tank which pumped air from a fish tank bubbler into the tank into a cup of water, raising the humidity a good 5%. Keep in mind this is my FIRST terrarium and my FIRST batch of equadors are colonizing behind me as I write this.
That's my system. Sounds like it will work, what do you guys think?

Florescent lights! What are you thinking?
I learned how to grow pot before I learned how to grow mushrooms, and I know florescents are good cheap light sources, that produce plentiful light WITHOUT MAKING A WHOLE LOT OF HEAT!!! Not to mention some valuble wavelengths needed for plant growth, but my point is is to stick with the HEATING PAD!

Heating pads can be great--if you don't put any weight on them. Put it on top and keep your chamber humid so as not to have dry heat. I put a folded towel over the pad and set some jars on it. (all in terrarium-no perlite) and set it on medium heat. Within an hour or so i looked in on them and the temp was 111*. Not good. Still they all colonized (I caught it early), but be careful-and think more than I did before you do it.

Your terrarium will work. Nice innovation with the plexiglass.
