Soak necessary?
    #3438944 -

Any experience on not soaking your grains prior to simmering/PC, rather rinsing and simmering?

I recommend you do the soak if at all possible. It germinates the bacterial spores, so they are easily killed in the PC. If you have to not soak. You can put the grains in your PC with 2 inches of water over it and PC them @ 15psi for a half hour. Then just drain, rinse, and load into jars. But you have a better chance of contam that way.

IMO a minimum 24 hour soak is essential. It's the simmering that can be skipped. When I get the initiative I'll write a tek detailing my method.

18 / 24 hour soak is a must do thing. Long a soak as possible, so long as WBS doesnt ferment (smell very badly), sprout,or rot is best. No simmer needed.

If you have some aged / leached / steer / horse manure around, either brew some into tea, or add softball size handfull into a nylon stocking (doubled up - several times)& add cup of strained tea, or use nylon stocking bag - like tea bag & leave it in the soak & stir halfway through soak.

Adds significan N to soak water, which WBS absorbs & myc loves.
You will get bigger better - everything.

Soaking allows the endospores to germinate and the PCing kills them off easier if this happens. Mainly want to watch out for bacillius, which is deadly to humans. Just another step in being careful and sterile. Don't want to screw your grow up, let alone eat something that might harm you in the end.
