(not to be mean to our dear brother Gomp) but I think the 'mystery' that you speak of is just the fact that English isn't his native language. I get what he says most of the time, since I'm used to speaking with people with poor english.

Gomp is cool.

I heard a rumour that he really is a toddler. That's him in his avatar, but he has a IQ of 300!

Yeah, I established the same thing. The only thing we could actually converse about was the language barrier preventing us from communicating. Literally, it happened in one thread... I gave up eventually, and he PM'd me and we talked for a while by PM... that conversation ALSO ended in the discussion of semantics. Then yet ANOTHER thread curved directly off-topic onto the subject of semantics in no time.

But then... I went a step further with it and realized that there is a bit more to it... because it almost seems as if he takes the subject of his lack of clarity as an opportunity to steer you into a situation where you are forced to follow the taoist/buddhist/zen-like statement "Be like water." Yielding.

There is a very wise person at the other end of that bridge, I think.. and he is clever despite his hinderance to the english language.

Kind of makes you want to learn his language and meet him halfway, doesn't it? I mean... I would love to hear him bright and clear for just one conversation.

The mystery to me is always quoting this "unknown" person.

I think that's just his way of randomly quoting something he heard once, but without requiring him to remember the specific wording or name of the author.

But he seems to use those quotes to reply to every thread. I've hardly ever seen a post from him without quotation marks.

"I would love to hear him bright and clear for just one conversation."

His spirit comes through but the language difference is a bit of an issue in the forum.

If you met him, you might be blinded without words.

I'm guess that may be a method of communication.. he uses quotes from other people as a translator of some sorts to the thoughts he's trying to convey. Besides the language barrier, I think he is fairly smart; especially to be using quotes as a means of translating ideas, conveying ideas inspite of the language barrier.

"I think his posts are great."

Agreed   Maybe the language difference is a benefit, his posts are short, mysterious, and deep?

Hail Gomp!

Perhaps it's just his way of not taking credit for other people's thoughts that he has adapted.

This is what I was getting at, in essence... as I posted in a thread I made a while ago, his method of communication combined with the language barrier you are GUARANTEED to end up in a state of either a) confusion and frustration, or b) confusion and acceptance of it.

I was in situation A before I had conversations with gomp.. then he helped to steered me into situation B--either intentionally or not, does not matter.. what matters is that his presence on this board teaches us to be yielding, accepting, and light-hearted about something that might bother you otherwise. (Like trying to have a serious "on-topic" discussion with him, and not being able to understand what he's trying to communicate.)

The "Unknown" is quite the accurate source to credit, as all knowledge that is discovered by individuals or collective minds in groups working together, is derived from the raw ore of the unknown.
No-knowledge is the "place" from which all knowledge is derived.
