idead for indoor growing...want advice

I had an idead of making a shelving setup using 3x4s and a plastic tarp, and a cool humidifier. would this work it would go in my closet. my main question is will wood be ok? i saw something similar on here using a shoe rack.any help would be appreciated.

That'll work just fine. Paint the wood with a glossy latex.

You'll definately want to put a sealant on the wood.  The humidity would cause it to rot other wise.

If your willing to use your whole closet here's an idea :

1. measure the inner dimentions of your closet
2. purchase 1" PVC tubing and pieces (elbows and such) to those measurements so you can build a sort of "frame" inside of the desired space
3. purchase blue styrofoam house insulation to cover the walls of the frame from the *outside*(i dont know the actual name to this but it comes in pieces kind of like plywood... it's relatively inexpencive).... the walls can be fixed to the frame with RUSTPROOF screws no longer than 1"
4. Apply sillicone to the joints so it is water proof
5. {OPTIONAL}the inside of the chamber is lined with PAINTER'S TARP(this stuff is great, clear, comes in all sizes, and most of all it's cheap). the tarp lining can be attached with staples or some INDUSTRIAL VELCRO TAPE(also great, strong, comes in 1 or 2 sizes, but it's not so cheap:()
**** Side note:
if ever your inner lining should rip (happens sometimes), get dirty or moldy - it's good to save all of your measurements.the velcro tape works great for this because the old lining can be removed quickly and the new one put in just as fast.
6. Shelves can be put up by screwing into the PVC or plastic shelving  can be bought and stacked (there are many like this if you look around)
7. all other "goodies":
1.fan
2.heater(seedling mats)
3.humidifyer
4.light
5.humidistat

can be routed into the grow chamber thru the *easily* cut/drilled walls.i would suggest that if you plan on having a light inside your chamber you attach it before applying the optional lining to save it from breaking due to moisture levels.

also ... a monkey of mine built one of these and attached "bungee" cords inside of the pvc tubing making the whole thing a breeze to take apart and put back together... but that's up to you how you personalize yours...

this is certainly not all of the steps as you can see. there are many factors that depend on the place you live which might cause you problems or ease in making this. ...good luck peace
