invitro question
    #334599 -

hi all, a FOAF said her jars are ready to birth and they are definitely ready. the jars are actually saying, "let me out now gosh darnit!" the question is how much longer can she keep them in since she's going out of town in a few days and won't be back until sunday evening. any thoughts on this? she would be greatly appreciative. thanks.

bb

You could leave them in until your mushrooms start to grow or longer. If you don't want to grow invitro, then if they pin in the jars, birth them and let them grow out in your terrarium.

If you wait until your cakes are moist, too moist, they will begin to pull away from the sides of the jar. This isn't good. That outside layer will become nasty yielding only on the edges if anywhere. Sometimes a couple of days might make a difference. But don't wait till they're shrinking. Some strains ONLY yield better when waiting for Invitro Prim to show. Also you could try a casing tech to aviod it all around :~)

I would reccomend leaving them in the jars 'till your friend gets back, this way the center can be completely colonized and the mycelium can get a little more durable.  If it is pinning when you get back, depending on strain, just birth it and cut off the pins when you stick it in the terr.  Although some strains like the PF do better with invitro pinning so you could leave the pins on then.
