Dry lookin' Rye during incubation

These 2 rye jars are about 15% colonized. However some of the rye looks kind of dry on one side and so does the myc. Is this bad?

did you soak and simmer etc etc?? if you did all these then they are fine, ive wondered that aswell with my millet jars, the look really dry but they colonize fine :thumbup:

How long since incoulation? I recently had a dry cake problem. I was able to re-hydrate with 0% contams. I only did it to half since we were not sure how it would all work. If you have given them alot of time you can do this if you are carfull. There is a post called 'dry cakes durring collonization' that has the procedure I used.

i would still give it more time before you try to do what i did....i think I got lucky

You can shake as well..distribute the kernals. Shake at about 10 and 50% colonization. Sometimes you dont need the second shake but I almost always shake at least once at 10%..
