 Photoshop help.

im jsut curious about photoshop. i got 7.0 so i know i have the tools for wicked shit. but i cant figure most of it out. i got the basics down i think.

lots of good stuff there.
im just curious waht everyone used to learn to use it? i cant afford classes for it so thats deffinatly out. my main interest is those trippy designs that you folks do. those ar just amazing. they way you get the reflections and lighting...wow!
how doyou guys/gals start out...thats the hardest part for me to figure...i dont knwo how to do shapes with photoshop...just the marquee and lasso tools....
anyway just a congrats to you and a help for me

I taught myself - it's taken me about 3 years to get to the point I'm at now, but I figure you can learn the ropes in a very limited amount of time. Just remember the golden rule of Photoshop - layers, filters and styles, OH MY!

A lot of people get the cool trippy effects from using third part filters like Eye Candy, KPT, etc etc.... It is really easy once you get a grasp on how to use them.... I wouldn't know what to recommend for you to read and learn.... I know what I know from experimentation 99% of the time.... That would be my #1 recommendation...!

Just remember that using only filters doesn't make you good at photoshop.
After every filter, hit Ctrl+Shift+F and scroll down to see the filter with a different lighting/effect just to see what else can result from one filter.

Ok so I dont have photoshop, but I have Fireworks, and it has styles.... What exact.y do you use styles for?

http://www.good-tutorials.com/ has lots of tutorials. As for getting started, try getting a hold of "Photoshop for Dummies" or something similar. Most tutorials are just step-by-step guides to achieve certain effects. Go through a "few" of them, then start combining and fooling around on your own.
