What the fuck is this green stuff

I have a big problem with the green stuff and i dont know how to get rid of it. Does anyone have a good method of fighting this stuff. Please tell me cause i need help.

Once you see the green, then your fucked.  Toss out your substrate and start again. 

To keep it from showing up in the first place, make sure you PC for the the right amount of time at the right psi.
Use sterile procedures when touching your casings or cakes, i.e. wash your hands really well or where gloves, make sure there are no drafts in the room (Optionally spray with lysol) when you open your terrarium, where a dust mask or surgical mask to prevent your germs from getting to the substrate.

I can see a world where this is no poverty and no war, I can also see us attacking that world because they would never expect it. :wink:

I would agree w/ johnny.. Unless it's a *huge* casing and you can dig out a 6" radius around the green spot. If you're seeing green on the surface, that shit is all down in your substrate. The green is what you see when it's fruiting.

I don't believe there's anything you can apply to get rid of it. No easy fix. Sorry to hear about it.

A pressure cooker is KEY, pressure cook jars at 15psi for 45 minutes. I try to wash my hands and arms when I will be going in the terrarium.

Impossible to identify positively without a microscope;

Most of the time the greenies in a jar are either Penicillium sp. or Aspergillus sp., both very common bread molds [grain molds].

On casings, though, Trichoderma is more likely in my experience. The others are possible, though.

Either way, they're molds, they're sporulating, even in the process of extracting a small green piece you're going to spread it around somewhat.

Pay attention to the pH and moisture content, should help out the next attempt-

what I would do at this point is take everything out of the tank and wash and sterilize everything. if U have cakes then recase each one in a jar cap with fresh verm and the tops as well replace and watch, the first sign of it on any of them remove it right then. I had to do this to keep from losing all 24 jars worth. It finally stopped at 7. after i did what I discrib above...

im awaiting my second flush and noticed a small green spot 2 days ago.my casing consists of like 6-8 crumbled cakes and is fairly large, about12x6, so would i be able to cut out that part, and if so what should use to fill the hole??

I find that when attempting the soil tek, Shultz potting soil always gives me green shit.

If you make a glovebox (little one) you can get rid of most mold contams (while pc'ing everything really good), because they are alway's floating around in the air!

Sure!
otherwise you can work near a bunsen burner to keep sterility...but i prefer to work with laminar flow cap or in the box as nonsense suggests ,when I can.

Thanks for all the very helpful replies, i have a lot of substrate to mix today so im still trying to figure out how im gonna do this. The other day i got a bottle of lysol and emptied half it into this closet so i could mix my berries with my straw. I hope that works, but it prob wont. So anyway i wish all of you luck in fighting that damn white/green shit.
