Edibles from the Cascades
    #3284507 - 10/27/04 03:33 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Your mushrooms are all very beautiful.
Here are some of the edibles I've harvested this year just for some diversity....hunting in the woods is very rewarding (even if you find nothing).
Matsutake in the wild.....

Close up Matsu, the smell is unforgettable....

Boletus Edulus aka Prochini aka King Bolete

White chanterelles, and Elfin Saddle (barely visible) in the wild..

Yellow chanties...

Shrimp Russula

Honeys....

Heh, nice chanterelles VC, Ive had a hard time findin the yellows this year. The whites are twice as large and twice as meaty tho so thats made up for it.

Hey, whats the shelf-life on dehydrator dried Cyans?

Dried shrooms should stay good for around 3-4 months, but can be frozen and preserved indefinantly (Make sure they are COMPLETELY cracker-dry, to be sure, goto your hardware store and get some desiccant (damprid) and put it in a bowl, then place a screen over the top of the bowl and place the mushrooms on top of the screen for 24 hours).

For chantrelles, I have almost always found them in forest bordering a pasture or field, where ferns are abundant.
