Get us a better shot of the underside of a couple caps. As cactu said, those are *not* yellow chanterelles.
On the very positive side, they look likely to be white chanterelles, Cantharellus subalbidus, which is also an excellent edible.
Happy mushrooming!

Those are chanterelles. Maybe the photos aren't showing the color very well.
Whichever of the various species of chanterelle they are, they are edible and excellent eating. Enjoy yourself.
Happy mushrooming!

Might be Cantharellus appalachiensis a.k.a. Appalachian Chanterelle. Out of curiosity, what region/area were they found?

Wrong! The golden chanterelle is FLAT and Ruffled around the edges of the cap, where as the shroom pictured has cap edge that curls under, just like the appalachian chanterelle at early to mid stage.

Sorry to pull up this thread again, but I don't think I'm mistaken in my identification. I pick them in Oregon and their shape is variable. Why would you think it is an Appalachian chanterelle? After all, NWDude is probably from the northwest.

The reason that I believe that it is a Appalachian Chanterelle is because the bright yellowishness of the cap with a slightly darker yellow/brown center and the hymenium is cream to pale yellow. With c.formosus the cap is typically a dull yellow to brownish and the hymenium is pink to salmon colored. The name "appalachiensis" in cantharellus appalachiensis refers to the Appalachian mountain region where the shroom was first described but that doesn't mean that you can only find them in the Appalachian mountains. I've personally found them as far west as Yellowstone. And I've talked to people in Alaska that have said they've found them in southern Alaska(inland side of the coastal mountains), although I have doubts about that because they never showed me any and while living in Alaska for over 10 years, I've never came across any. Regardless which one it is, it's still good eating.

He just sent me a piece of tissue and I'll have the genetic results tomorrow. In the meantime there are links to compare.
