possibly allergic to seafood?

recently on a few occasions ive noticed some weird effects when consuming large quantities of sea food....most recently while on vacation in florida, we went to an all you can eat lobster place...and after about 6 lobster tails, plus countless amounts of king crab legs and other assorted goodies from the sea i noticed a very weird feeling. ive noticed this a few other times too, but only if i eat alot...i feel high! very high...like a weed/percocet/drunk kind of high...
i asked my friend about this, and he said i may be allergic or something. this seemed a bit odd to me, cuz the only effect i feel is the high. when you have an allergic reaction, isnt there also some sort of swelling of the throat, or redening of the skin or something along those lines? could it be that there is just something in sea food that for some reason makes me high? anyone ever hear about this or experience it themselves?

There is a chance that the see food was infected with toxins from a red tide or something but if it consistantly happens whenever you eat a ton of seafood it could just be a weird quirk unique to you.

No, that DEFINITELY doesn't sound like a food allergy.
If you were allergic to seafood, ANY amount would make you quite violently ill. Think projectile vomit and possibly anaphylactic shock (not fun, VERY life-threatening, and definitely doesn't feel like a "high"! if you aren't at a hospital within 5 minutes or so, or have some adrenaline to inject, you're a deadman).
Real allergies suck. Especially food allergies. They don't feel good in any sense of the word.

That's a sign of anaphylactic shock. Trust me. I've had it before.
As soon as the histamine starts flooding your blood and doing its nasty little thing, your blood vessels all open WIDE up and start leaking fluid into the surrounding tissue. You can feel it first as a very odd feeling in the back of your throat. The feeling soon becomes a little painful, and you start to get dizzy...but wonder why. Some people get hives all over their body about now (I did), very itchy and kind of feels like something is oozing out of your flesh (not to the touch, it just FEELS like your skin is oozing). Within a few more minutes your throat is so tight you can hardly breathe. By now you've lost a LOT of blood volume due to water leaking out through the blood vessels, plus the vessels themselves have all expanded so your blood pressure goes WAY down. Walking gets very difficult, along with any coherent thought except "OH FUCK!".
One of the sweetest moments of my life was when the doc stuck that syringe of adrenaline in my arm and I started to feel air in my lungs again.
This was caused (in my case) by too strong of a dose of my Allergy Injection Therapy (which uses allergens to de-sensitize your immune system). I was lucky enough to have been forwarned of this possibility so I knew what was happening pretty quickly and had my mother race back to the doc's office for adrenaline. I'm also very lucky we didn't live too far away. Food allergies are MUCH more dangerous than the allergies I have. People die all the time from food allergies.
If wrestler_az had an allergy to seafood he would definitely know it after eating six lobster tails. One of my sisters is MILDLY allergic to sea food. Once she ate two bites of ceasar salad without knowing there was fish in the dressing. Two bites and she started puking immediately and KEPT puking for hours. That's just a MILD allergy with a couple bites of watered-down allergen.
Six lobster tails would most likely put him in the ER.

wrestler_az if you REALLY want to know if you have an allergy to sea food, I suggest you go have an allergy test performed on you. I have to warn you though, they aren't very pleasant and you do run quite a risk of anaphylaxis...though will be lucky enough to be under medical supervision already so you'll get that adrenaline shot.
Usually what they do is called a scratch-test. You lay on your stomach and they put about 40-50 drops of different allergens on your back in a grid pattern. Then they take a needle and use it to break the skin surface under each drop. Worst part is next! You have to lay perfectly still for 15-20 minutes while your back starts swelling up under any of the drops you are allergic to. You can't scratch, either. I had a large red welt about 4" across from just ONE drop of ragweed pollen after 10 minutes or so. Can't scratch it. Dear god...those 15 minutes go by SLOW
They'll probably do another quick, but luckily much smaller, test where they inject small amounts of allergens under your top skin layer (usually on the upper arms). They make little white bubbles that slowly soak in over 10 mins or so. Same idea: if you get a red welt, you're allergic to that drop.

if your body isn't used to eating seafood, then your body will react strangely to it. Just think of how inland native americans reacted to the coastal native american diet of mainly fish, and vice versa to a diet mainly of berries and bison when traveling, same concept!

for a minute there jenny, you sounded smart
lol...but ya, i dont get ANY of that shit trendal was talking about, except for the dizzy feeling, and a body buzz...quite pleasent actually, it sure as hell doesnt feel like my skin is bubbling...i think it might be exactly what you just said. i dont eat sea food very often, and when i do its usually in large quantities...it could be just my body dealing with the different chemicals that are in shellfish that my body isnt used to getting...
and by the way, how you been?

wow....gorge yourself much? damn lol
sometimes, eating tasty food and foods you like, especially in large quantities can make your body produce feel good chemicals.
it could be a 'reward' action by your mind or it could simply be from the different vitamins and minerals in seafood like jenny said. alot of seafood contains zinc, which is an aphrodesiac for men.
