Question about pig ears?

I went hunting today in the seattle area and found what I saw on a previous post to be pig ears. I heard they were poisonous until they got infected with a parasite. Does anyone know how to tell when they are safe to eat and how strong they are and whats the best way to take them?

Pig Ears is a common name used for several different mushrooms.
One group of species are the ones around Discina perlata. Although they are possibly edible, many closely related species produce methylhydrazine when cooked, making them potentially lethal. They are also very difficult to identify accurately to species. For these reasons they are strongly not recommended.
That name has also been used for Gomphus clavatus, a close relative of the Chanterelle. They are also listed as edible, although some people experience stomach upsets after eating them, so they should be eaten the first time with caution.
The best known mushroom that is poisonous (actually, more like inedible) but becomes edible after being infected by a parasite is Russula brevipes and the parasite Hypomyces lactifluorum. I have not heard of either mushroom being referred to by the name Pigs Ears. The mushroom after infection is commonly referred to as Lobster Mushrooms.
What do you mean by "how strong they are" or "how to take them"? In all the cases above the mushrooms are considered potential edible mushrooms. None of them are active or even related closely to any active species.
Happy mushrooming!

A bit off topic, but OK.
Oyster Mushrooms (my opinion) are mild in flavor and firm in texture. The bases of the caps (or stems if they have them) are sometimes too tough and chewy to eat. Because of the mild flavor, I prefer to use them for texture and appearance. For example, they do well in soups and as part of a stir fry.
If eaten by themselves, I prefer to over-fry them until they start to get a little crunchy with butter and garlic. Almost anything tastes good fried in butter with garlic.
