AKIRA
    #3257808 -

My favourite film of all time and in my opinion by far the greatest anime ever made.  The story, the detail, the music, the style, the colours...  Its fantastic!

Ive watched it more than 30 times and my appreciation of it grows with every viewing!

If anyone can name a masterpiece anime to match this I would love to hear it

I own it and have seen it about a million times, but it suffers from the usual anime problem of trying to be way too deep for it's own good, and doing a terrible job at explaining itself.

I have a love-hate relationship with it.

ghost in the shell is pretty wicked and the sequel looks phenominal. All time favs include vampire hunter D both parts, wicked city, and ninja scrolls (original)... also Inuyasha on cartoon network is awesome.

Nothing can match Akira, but I also liked Perfect Blue, and some of the animation in "the Animatrix" is seriously kick-ass

Yea Its not easy trying to follow it the first time through, but I think it does a good job considering the scale of the manga it was converted from. More than most other films Its like one big mosaic of scenes all adding to the overall effect and each scene is crammed with detail, some with clever symbolism and of course all with style.

Theres no better thing to stick on when you got a couple J's goin round and some music on

You guys really need to download/rent some newer, non-americanized anime.

People think they know anime after they've seen Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, and some DBZ episodes....and some of that horrible Inuyasha stuff.  Most of that stuff is cool, but stale man!

If you haven't seen Princess Mononoke, rent that. All places should have it.  Go watch some Evangelion.  Or some cool parts of Naruto.  Try FLCL (its 6 half our episodes, so you can watch the whole psychotic thing in 3 hours. same as a LoTR movie).

Bitorrent site for anime: http://www.animesuki.com/
Look at some of the popular downloads and do a search on them on google. See if the plot/charas/art seem interesting and start downloading.

There's tons of new stuff out there.  Don't be stuck in the 80's.

Yeah, thats the one.

Done by Studio Ghibli, same guys that made Spirited Away.

I find that the ghibli guys are major druggies, as all their art tends to lean on the 'liquidy' side.  Most anime out there is somewhat 'edgy', while these guys have a sense of fluidity and roundness to their art.  I dunno.

For ppl who havent seen it, go watch it. Very trippy movie.

if anything I'd say mononoke is more americanized than akira.... the story certainly has a more western structure.

FLCL is artisticaly awsome, though the story is craaaaaaacked out.

I just picked up 7 of the lupin III dvd box sets....... god, so great

Decent darker style anime. Its rare.. well a lot rarer than all that stupid schoolyard drama or little puppet things with big pants crap.

Good stuff If anyones interested: Ghost in the shell - theres a sequel now too 'Innocence', and 2 series... no.1 was best. Serial experiments lain. Boogiepop phantom. Evangelion. Texhnolyze. Grave of the fireflies.

Agreed with FLCL, one of the best. In the same vain, excell saga, but not as good.

Loads a people mentionin that mononoke...

Would really like to see Berserk but never seen it anywhere.... i think its from the same manga that sword of the berserk Guts rage was takin from.  That game fuckin owns all other third person action games in terms of pure gameplay.  its got style like too
